Bruins Notes: Boston Lacks ‘Push Back' In Three-Goal Loss To Canucks

1 month ago   |   By NESN

The Boston Bruins typically pride themselves on grit and an unbreakable will to win, but there wasn't much shown of either Thursday night at TD Garden.
What started as a back-and-forth affair quickly turned into an ugly rout, as the Bruins fell 8-5 to the Vancouver Canucks in the second game of their current homestand.
After the game, head coach Bruce Cassidy hinted that changes could be coming in wake of the way his team responded to facing a multi-goal deficit.
“I didn't like the push back of some of the guys in our group,” Cassidy said, as seen on NESN's Bruins postgame coverage. “A...

Jacob Markstrom Stymies Bruins' Power Play With Impressive Save On Brad Marchand

1 month ago   |   By NESN

It wasn't a banner day for Jacob Markstrom, but he did enough to get the job done.
The Vancouver Canucks netminder stopped 23 of 28 shots in an 8-5 win over the Boston Bruins on Thursday night at TD Garden. While Markstrom wasn't a wall, he did have one impressive stop in the third period.
With the Canucks leading 6-4 and Boston on the power play, the puck found Brad Marchand who had a good look to cut the deficit to one. Marchand blistered the puck, but Markstrom was able to slide over and make the save to preserve the lead.

The Boston Bruins struggled on the defensive end Thursday night, to say the least.
The B's suffered one of their ugliest losses of the season at TD Garden, dropping an 8-5 decision to the Vancouver Canucks.
Bruce Cassidy wasn't happy with his team's all-around play against the Canucks, but the head coach made note of the penalty kill, which struggled to block shots throughout the contest.

Bruins Wrap: Boston Falls To Canucks In Wild Goal-Scoring Bonanza

1 month ago   |   By NESN

The Boston Bruins finally found the goal scoring they were looking for Thursday night. Unfortunately for the B's, the visitors' goal-scoring touch was even stronger.
The Bruins found the back of the net five times against the Vancouver Canucks, with just one of those goals coming from the first line. But the Canucks scored early and often at TD Garden, tabbing the Black and Gold with an 8-5 loss.
Jaroslav Halak finally came down to earth, as he was pulled in the second period following after allowing his fifth goal of the game.
With the loss, Boston falls to 8-5-2, while Vancouver improves...

Bruins' Defense Gets Involved In Offense During First Period Vs. Canucks

1 month ago   |   By NESN

The Boston Bruins have been trying to get their defensemen more involved in their offense, and they were able to do that in the first period against the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday night.
Trailing 1-0, the Bruins went on the attack with Jake DeBrusk taking the puck through the neutral zone before dropping a nice pass to David Krejci. The Bruins center slid a pass to defenseman Matt Grzelcyk who was trailing the play, and Grzelcyk blistered a shot past Canucks netminder Jacob Markstrom to tie the game.

Bruins' Puck Movement Puts Early Pressure On Canucks' Active Defense

1 month ago   |   By NESN

The Boston Bruins had a precise offensive game plan Thursday night and they executed it to perfection during the first period against the Vancouver Canucks at TD Garden.
Knowing the Canucks have an active defense that likes to keep things to the outside, the Bruins used crisp puck movement to get the puck deep in the zone and keep Vancouver moving, leading to long stretches of offensive zone time for the B's.
To hear NESN's Billy Jaffe break down the Bruins' offense, check out the Amica Coverage Cam video above.
