FIFA president: World Cup could expand to 48 teams in 2022, ahead of schedule

FIFA remains open to expanding the number of teams in the World Cup by 50 percent in 2022, four years earlier than planned, the president of soccer's international governing body said Friday. The organization will continue discussing the matter with the host country, Qatar, and "calmly and quietly" decide whether to grow the tournament to 48 teams from 32, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said. ‘Hot women' may be hard to find on World Cup broadcasts

FIFA wants its broadcasters to stick to soccer. According to the BBC, the governing body would like broadcasts to stop highlighting “hot women” during the World Cup. Anti-discrimination group Fare Network says sexism has been the biggest problem at the tournament, with more than 30 cases documented. “We've done it with individual broadcasters,” Federico Addiechi, FIFA's diversity boss said of the initiative. “We've done it with our host broadcast services.” However, Addiechi has said there is no “proactive campaign” in place yet. FIFA confirms no positive World Cup doping tests, starts investigation into England chants

FIFA has announced that there have been no positive doping tests during the World Cup, while also confirming that disciplinary proceedings have started against England for "possible discriminatory" chanting. On average, every player from the four remaining teams - France, Croatia, England and Belgium - has been tested four times since January, with some tested up to eight times. Meanwhile, chants by England fans during their World Cup semi-final defeat to Croatia on Wednesday are being investigated by the governing body.
