Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout finished second to Mookie Betts for the American League Most Valuable Player award on Thursday. It's the fourth time Trout has finished second in MVP voting in his career, joining Ted Williams, Stan Musial, and Albert Pujols for most times as runner-up in MLB history, according to Baseball Reference. The 26-year-old won the award after leading the majors in batting average , slugging percentage and runs (129) and posting 10.9 wins above replacement, according to Baseball-Reference.
A three-time all-star, Betts was named MVP in just his fourth full big-league season.
