Sean Kuraly Has Made Convincing Case To Get Opportunity On Second Line

2 monthes ago   |   By NESN

After Tuesday's 4-0 win over the Minnesota Wild, Boston Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy was asked if he saw David Backes being a long-term solution as the team's second-line right wing alongside David Krejci and Jake DeBrusk.
“I don't know if I ever have long-term solutions,” Cassidy said with a smile.
Cassidy admitted that he'd keep things as is so long as Backes was working out, but seeing as the veteran forward logged the fewest amount of ice time of anyone on the team in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs, it seems clear he's at least somewhat fallen out of favor in the...

Kasperi Kapanen's Two-Point Night Not Enough To Lift Leafs Vs. Bruins

2 monthes ago   |   By NESN

The Toronto Maple Leafs entered Saturday night without much production from Kasperi Kapanen over the last couple of weeks.
The second-line winger had not registered a point in each of the Leafs' last six games.
Playing alongside Auston Matthews, Kapanen got off the schneid Saturday with two assists in the second period, but it was not enough as the Boston Bruins erased a 2-1 deficit to win 3-2.
To see how Kapanen's numbers stack up against Brad Marchand's, check out the video above from “Bruins Breakaway Live,” presented by Rodenhiser Heating and Cooling.

Bruins Notes: Success Against Maple Leafs Encouraging Sign Going Forward

2 monthes ago   |   By NESN

The Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs finished their season series Saturday night, but let's be real, they'll probably see each other again once spring rolls around.
Scotiabank Arena played host to a chaotic, yet wildly entertaining 3-2 win for the Bruins. With the victory, they climb within two points of Toronto for second place in the Atlantic Division, although the Leafs do have one game in hand.
There's a very real possibility the two Original Six sides will be the second- and third-place teams in the division once the regular season ends, meaning they'd have yet another...

Maple Leafs-Bruins humdinger provides sense of playoff inevitability

TORONTO - Until they meet again.
Saturday's airtight finale of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins ' regular-season series had all the feel of more to come.
Boston won 3-2, but the home side generated enough chances and maintained a high enough pace throughout that one couldn't help but wonder if Frederik Andersen (still sidelined with a groin injury that ran into a flu bout) might've made the difference.
“I think Boston plays a quick game,” says Leafs coach Mike Babcock, explaining the difference between the Bruins' attack and the rugged clampdowns of Nashville and Minnesota that...

Stretch Pass, Net-Front Screen Paved Way For Bruins First-Period Goal

2 monthes ago   |   By NESN

David Krejci put the Boston Bruins on the board in the first period against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
But Krejci's ninth goal of the season started with a stretch pass out of the Boston defensive zone from Zdeno Chara. After Sean Kuraly corralled the puck by the half boards and found Krejci in the slot, Chris Wagner went to the front of the net. Wagner's moving screen was just enough to give Krejci the opening he needed, sending a blast past Michael Hutchinson in the Toronto goal.
To hear NESN's Andy Brickley break down the sequence, check out the Berkshire Bank Exciting Rewind in the video...
