Josh Gorges announces retirement

Though he hasn't played an NHL game since last year, Josh Gorges' playing career was not officially over. That changed Monday when the veteran defenseman announced his retirement from the game of hockey. Gorges played 34 games last season for the Buffalo Sabres, and failed to reach an extension with the team as they moved on to a younger core. The 34-yea- old defenseman will finish his NHL career with 783 regular-season games, most of which were spent with the Montreal Canadiens.
