Ex-Jets QB Christian Hackenberg Visited Patriots But Didn't Sign

The New England Patriots took a close look at a New York Jets castoff quarterback Thursday at Gillette Stadium.
The Patriots hosted Christian Hackenberg on a visit but didn't sign him, a source told NESN.com. Hackenberg was selected in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft out of Penn State. ESPN's Field Yates first reported the visit.
Hackenberg didn't attempt a single pass in two seasons with the New York Jets. He was claimed off waivers by the Oakland Raiders this offseason but was cut earlier this week. He became a free agent Wednesday.

Christian Hackenberg could return to the AFC East. The former Jets quarterback visited with the Patriots on Thursday at Gillette Stadium, according to Field Yates of ESPN.com. The Patriots have some level of interest in the former second-round pick, but that doesn't mean they'll sign him right away. Football fans may not have seen the last of Christian Hackenberg. The failed 2016 second-round pick of the New York Jets is visiting with the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium on Thursday, a source told ESPN's Field Yates. Hackenberg was traded from the Jets to the Oakland Raiders in late May in exchange for a conditional seventh-round pick.
