Astros manager says Jose Altuve is playing on one leg

1 month ago   |   By Yardbarker

The defending World Series champion Houston Astros will be facing elimination Thursday night against the Boston Red Sox in Game 5 of the ALCS. That's the bad news. The good news? Houston will have former AL MVP Jose Altuve back in the field at second base after being relegated to designated hitter duties over the past two games. Altuve has been dealing with a nagging knee injury and hasn't looked anywhere near 100 percent. In talking about his star infielder, Astros manager A.J. Hinch noted that Altuve is essentially playing on one leg and wouldn't be suiting up if this were a mere regular...

Joe West explains the fan interference call he clearly blew

1 month ago   |   By Yahoo Sports

One of the biggest plays in a game full of big plays in last night's Red Sox-Astros game was the call of fan interference that took a home run away from Jose Altuve. Well, actually, it didn't technically take a home run away, because right field umpire Joe West never called it a home run to begin with. The fan in question did not reach out onto the field of play - Mookie Betts‘ glove entered the stands - and the rules clearly state that no interference is called if a spectator comes in contact with a batted or thrown ball without reaching onto the field of play.

Red Sox close on World Series slot after fan interference wipes out Astros homer

1 month ago   |   By The Guardian

Umpire rules fan interfered with Mookie Betts's attempted catch Home run would have yielded two runs in 8-6 loss for Houston Jose Altuve was sure he'd hit a tying home run for the Houston Astros in Game 4 of the AL Championship Series. Then, he saw the signal: he was out. Altuve's potential homer was wiped away when umpire Joe West ruled that fans reaching for the ball interfered with Boston right fielder Mookie Betts's attempt to make a leaping catch. Now Houston's chances to repeat as World Series champions are nearly out of reach after an 8-6 loss on Wednesday night that put the Red Sox...

Red Sox Fans Won't Enjoy Danny Ainge's Take On Fan Interference Play

1 month ago   |   By NESN

Yes, Danny Ainge supports the local sports teams. But he also calls them like he sees them.
So, while Boston Red Sox fans will appreciate that Ainge stayed up to watch the entirety of Wednesday night's marathon Game 4 of the American League Championship Series - which ended after 1 a.m. ET - they probably don't want to hear what the Boston Celtics' president of basketball operations thought of that controversial fan interference play in the first inning.
The play in question: Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve hit a deep fly ball that escaped the glove of Red Sox right fielder...

Bill Simmons Drops High Praise On Andrew Benintendi's ALCS Game 4 Catch

1 month ago   |   By NESN

Bill Simmons' tweets aren't for everyone, a fact that was reinforced recently when an ESPN radio host called out the well-known sports pundit for something he posted after the Boston Red Sox's American League Division Series win over the New York Yankees.
But there's no denying Simmons eats, sleeps and breathes Boston sports and that the Red Sox's current playoff run has resulted in some stressful moments over the last couple of weeks.
“Where are the cigarettes?”
“What's the best shot to help you relax - whiskey?”
“Didn't we put an old pack of cigarettes in the attic 3 years ago in case of...

Andrew Benintendi made perfect adjustment before game-saving catch

1 month ago   |   By Yardbarker

The Houston Astros were just inches away from taking Game 4 of the ALCS on Wednesday night to even the series at 2-2, and they may have done just that had Boston Red Sox outfielder Andrew Benintendi been less prepared. Benintendi made arguably the best play of the postseason when he dove to catch a sinking line drive with two outs and the bases loaded. Had the ball gotten past him, the Red Sox would have lost. As Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports learned after the game, Benintendi took 1 1/2 steps in at the start of Alex Bregman's at-bat. Bregman hit a sinking liner into left on the first pitch...

Red Sox' 8-6 win over Astros in Game 4 of ALCS marred by interference call

1 month ago   |   By Yahoo Sports

A fan interference call that turns two runs into an out in the penultimate round of the playoffs should not be allowed to "stand," the term MLB uses when it defaults to the original call out of deference to the naked eye. The only choices on a play of that magnitude - the only options after Jose Altuve's would-be homer was reduced to an out on Wednesday in the Red Sox' 8-6 win over the Astros in Game 4 of the ALCS, a victory that gives them a 3-1 series lead and moves them to within one game of the American League pennant and a World Series berth - should be to confirm the call or overturn...
