The Washington Nationals announced on Thursday that Matt Wieters has undergone hamstring surgery, and it sounds like the catcher could miss an extended period of time.As Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports notes, hamstring injuries typically only require surgery if they are significant. While the Nationals have not yet given a timeline for Wieters' recovery, it is not out of the question that we won't see him again in 2018. Wieters is in his second season with the Nationals. He is once again struggling at the plate, having hit .231 with three homers and seven RBI in 23 games.

Sixers forward Robert Covington has undergone successful surgery to repair the extensor tendon in his left middle finger, the team announced today in a press release. While the procedure was completed today, Covington has been dealing with the injury since December 28.
According to the Sixers, Covington will be able to use his left hand immediately, though he'll wear a splint on the injured finger while he recovers.
