Red Sox bash host Astros to capture Game 3 of the ALCS

HOUSTON - These Red Sox seem to treat imposing road locales with the same laissez-faire attitude that Rocky Balboa treated Russia when he took on Ivan Drago. Fresh off their demystifying of Yankee Stadium, the Sawx battered the Astros, 8-2 in American League Championship Series Game 3 Tuesday at the Texas-tinged curiosity that is Minute...

Watch Jackie Bradley Jr. Blast Grand Slam For Red Sox In ALCS Game 3

In the eighth inning of Game 3 of the American League Championship Series, Jackie Bradley Jr. came through in the biggest way against the Houston Astros. With his team up 4-2 and the bases loaded, the center fielder sent a rocket off Roberto Osuna to right field to bust open the game, 8-2.

Watch: Steve Pearce puts Red Sox up with 456-foot HR

1 month ago   |   By Yardbarker

Steve Pearce came through with a clutch home run in Game 3 of the ALCS, putting the Boston Red Sox up 3-2 in the top of the sixth inning. Pearce, who had not hit a homer yet in the postseason, got everything behind this swing. His solo shot went 456 feet down the left-field line. The only thing that was uncertain when the ball left his bat was whether it would stay fair or turn foul. It stayed true. This was a bit of vindication for Pearce, who had an extra-base hit robbed by Tony Kemp earlier in the game that would have scored at least one, if not two runs.

Rafael Devers costs Red Sox with bad play at third base

1 month ago   |   By Yardbarker

Rafael Devers cost his Boston Red Sox a run in the bottom of the fifth inning in Game 3 of the ALCS on Tuesday with a bad play in the field. Alex Bregman was batting with two outs, Jose Altuve on first, and a 2-2 count from Nathan Eovaldi. Bregman took a pitch on the outside corner and chopped it down to third. A misplay by Devers allowed the ball to bounce into the left field corner. Altuve scored from first while Bregman made his way into second. That's a tough play for Devers, but he has to be better on it. Even if he doesn't field the ball cleanly to get an out to end the inning, at...

Tony Kemp Makes Sick Catch To Rob Red Sox In ALCS Game 3: Did Ball Hit Wall?

1 month ago   |   By NESN

What's a playoff baseball game without a little drama?
Down 2-1 in the third inning of Tuesday's Game 3 of the American League Championship Series, Astros left fielder Tony Kemp made an acrobatic catch against the wall, saving the Astros from falling into a larger hole against the Boston Red Sox.

The 5-foot-6 Kemp tracked the Steve Pearce shot all the way to the wall, jumped up and fully extended before snagging the ball in the webbing of his glove. The Red Sox would go on to challenge the call, as some claimed...

George Springer extends postseason hitting streak to 12 games

1 month ago   |   By Yardbarker

It doesn't appear as though the red hot bat of Houston Astros center fielder George Springer will be cooling down any time soon. Springer singled in the third inning of Game 3 of the ALCS vs. the Boston Red Sox. Going back to 2017, he now has a postseason hitting streak of 12 games. Interestingly enough, Springer's is not the longest active postseason hitting streak. That belongs to Kansas City Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar. He hit safely in Game 5 of the 2015 World Series, extending his hitting streak to 15 games. But Escobar and the Royals have not returned to the postseason since, so...

Astros' Tony Kemp makes jaw-dropping leaping catch

1 month ago   |   By Yardbarker

It looked like the Boston Red Sox would add to their lead in Game 3 of the ALCS against the Houston Astros. But Tony Kemp had other ideas. Steve Pearce hit a high fly ball to deep left that would have certainly scored J.D. Martinez from second and probably Xander Bogaerts from first base, as well. But Kemp used every bit of his 5-foot-6 frame to get up and catch it before it hit the wall. SCtop10pic.twitter.com/XGdQHh8yje - SportsCenter October 16, 2018 The Red Sox did challenge the play, thinking that the loud noise might have been the ball hitting the wall. But the play was correctly upheld.

Watch: Tony Kemp robs Red Sox with spectacular catch against wall

1 month ago   |   By Yardbarker

Houston Astros left fielder Tony Kemp robbed Steve Pearce of extra bases with a spectacular catch against the wall in left field during Game 3 of the ALCS on Tuesday. Pearce was up with runners on first and second with two outs in the top of the third inning and took a 2-2 pitch from Dallas Keuchel deep to left. Kemp went back and made a leaping catch against the wall: Kemp banged against the scoreboard as he made the catch, which caused some confusion. Boston thought that the ball had hit the wall first before going into Kemp's glove, which would have erased the out and made it a live...

The first inning has been a problem for Dallas Keuchel all season. Tuesday proved to be no different.
